5G-MILNET General Assembly meeting in Sophia Antipolis, France

The 5G-MILNET consortium recently gathered in Sophia Antipolis for the Year 1 General Assembly. Hosted by Eurecom, the partners met to review the first year’s progress and align on the next phases of development.

5G-MILNET’s overall objective is to establish an on-demand, reliable, and cost-effective next-generation communications network for European military forces on the battlefield, utilising rapidly deployable 5G nodes that are strategically placed and operated autonomously, without the need for fixed infrastructure.

During the meeting, consortium members reviewed the progress of the pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, discussed preliminary operational requirements and deployment concepts, and examined the first results of the technology gap analysis and market potential assessment. Partners also advanced discussions on the preliminary system architecture and component design, including initial technical specifications, security risk assessment considerations, and product assurance activities. In parallel, the External Scientific Advisory Board session provided valuable feedback on defence-oriented innovation areas and future research directions, while the final discussions focused on coordination, risk management, dissemination, security, and standardisation activities for the next phase of the project.
